About Ubuntu Malmö Film Festival
Malmö’s Afro-Swedish film festival for African and diaspora storytelling: cinema, conversation, community and cultural memory.
I am
because we are
9-11 October 2026
Biograf Panora, Malmö
Ubuntu is often translated as “I am because we are.” It speaks to shared humanity, responsibility and belonging. That spirit shapes the festival: a place where stories are watched together, discussed together and carried back into the city together.
Ubuntu Malmö Film Festival brings African and Afro-Swedish storytelling to Malmö through features, documentaries and shorts, with director talks, panels and music. The programme celebrates Africa and its diaspora in all their richness: intimate family stories, political memory, migration, resistance, joy and imagination.
The festival is organised by Afrosvenskarnas Forum för Rättvisa, the Pan-African Movement for Justice.
Cinema
New African and diaspora films shown with care, context and room for conversation.
Community
A meeting place for Malmö’s audiences, artists, organisers and Afro-Swedish communities.
Justice
Stories that challenge erasure, widen the archive and make space for new futures.
